“I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University. Currently, I am pursuing my master’s degree in Public Health at Florida International University. Without TRIO I wouldn’t have been continuing my educational studies. I had a support system when I needed it the most. They pushed me to my full potential and never doubted me. The staff from the program are amazing individuals who care about every student’s success. Student support services offered me opportunities that I wouldn’t have been able to obtain anywhere else.”

“SSS has served as a sanctuary for me during my tenure here at FIU. The mentorship, resources, and workshops are the reasons why today I am proud and able to say that I am an FIU Alumni. To any SSS students, I would say that take advantage of the opportunities that you have. Use all the resources available to you. Make the best of your time here at FIU.”

“The SSS Program has made such an big impact on me throughout my time as an undergrad. Never have I ever felt more supported and well-informed than while surrounded by such wonderful people who saw more in me than I gave myself credit for. I believe that every student has the capability to go beyond what they think is possible, and with a great support system like SSS, you will see yourself rise high above your expectations.”

Albert Jimenez

(Graduated in spring 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering)

“The SSS Program has truly been there for me every step of the way. I joined my freshman year and the love and support remained constant throughout my 4 years at FIU. Without the support from Dr. Cruz and Moira, I believe I would not have achieved this milestone with so many accomplishments. They truly want what’s best for you and will always advise with their best intentions.

For any current SSS student, I advise to be active within the program. There are so many opportunities that Dr. Cruz and Moira provide for their students that allow you grow as an individual and build your professionalism. Do not miss out on those opportunities just because you are not active.

Also, make the most out of your years in college. Get involved in a club or find something you truly enjoy doing. Classes do get stressful but having an outlet makes your time in college much more enjoyable. If the stress does get over bearing, just remember to not give up. Something will always work out in the end.”
