March 2, 2017 | 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. | SASC-302 | Eric Feldman | Click here to register
At FIU, we strive for all undergraduates to be “global citizens.” But what does that mean? If the very definition of “citizenship” is the legal status of inhabiting a specific state or country, how can you be a citizen of the world? During this workshop, we will explore what FIU means when we say that global citizenship is defined as “the process of diverse people collaboratively analyzing and addressing complex problems that transcend borders.” We will also have an open discussion on why someone may want to be a global citizen, and if identifying with that label has any drawbacks. With so much social injustice right here in Miami, shouldn’t we be focusing our attention here at home? These questions, and all of the others you have about what global learning is really about, will be tackled during interactive activities and open dialogue.
