Partners in Progress

PARTNERS IN PROGRESS

Partners in Progress (PIP) is a unique collaborative arrangement between FIU and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS). The goal of the program is to provide a systematic approach to the development of academic skills for 9th – 11th graders while preparing them for college admission. This summer program engages 9th and 10th grade students in intensive SAT preparation and practice testing in math, English, and writing. Eleventh graders engage in two dual enrollment college courses (six credits) as a bridging experience to college. FIU provides scholarships to cover the cost of tuition and fees for the courses and test preparation. MDCPS provides the funding for the required books. The program is offered every summer during the months of July and August. Benefits of the program include:

  • Introduces students to the college environment with access to FIU’s resources
  • College courses that can boost high school GPAs
  • Increased likelihood of college admission
  • Interactive group research projects
  • Informational workshops on college
  • Additional counseling, financial aid, and scholarship information Students who complete the program and are accepted into FIU are eligible for the Invitational Scholars Program, which includes academic and financial support.
